PITTSBURGH GARDEN RAILWAY SOCIETY MINUTES FOR

JANUARY 30, 2016

 

The meeting was held in Brownsville at the Monongahela River Rail & Transportation Museum.

21 members signed into the meeting that Keith Baggus brought to order at 1:30 pm.

Name tags and embroidered clothing items were handed out. Alycefaye Stewart has any unclaimed items. Arrangements can be made to get yours item by calling 724-837-5449 or seeing her at the next meeting.

New members were introduced:
Michael Bowen and Deborah Smithula from Delmont
Daniel Cinwalt from Pittsburgh
Joe Welling from Jeannette

Don Goodwin was thanked for all the HARD work he put into getting the new trailer up and ready, for all the club’s item. All the trains and supplies fit into it with room to spare. Thanks goes to all the members who helped load the trailer before the meeting.

-June of 2017 the National Convention of T.C.A. will be held at the Windom Hotel, Pittsburgh. We have been asked to be the “G” gauge train layout for the event. More details will follow as we are informed.

The East Coast Train Show in York, Pa. will be March 25th & 26th the weekend of Easter. Dave Bodnar will be presenting a program again this year. A great show to see if you have never been there.

Keith Baggus mentioned some trip ideas he is working on for this year. He outlined four trips; more information will follow as things firm up. Keep an eye on the “From The President’s Desk” in our newsletter.

Dave Bodnar remarked that our control system for the trains is outdated and parts can only be found on the internet.

Don Goodwin stated that we need to get insurance for the trailer before we take it on the road.

The Tentative Calendar for 2016

-January: rescheduled because of weather

-February: Jan. 30th meeting

-March: Sunday, 6th @ 2:00….Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh, third floor waiting room, train layout.

-April: Saturday, 9th @ 1:00…Episcopal Church, 139 North Jefferson Ave. Canonsburg, hosted by Ann Celento, everyone is ask to bring a covered dish. Let Ann know what you plan to bring. (724-745-3696 or ACelento@comcast.net)

-May: Saturday 14th. @ 1:00… Michael Bowen & Deborah Smithula (our new members) will be hosting the meeting in his home at 264 Apple Hill Drive, Delmont, 15626. Please let him know if you plan to attend (412-377-8369 or mide2@comcast.net) Mike is taking care of all food, drinks and something very special?????

-June: Saturday 18th @ 1:00…Mark & Teresa Demyan will be the host at 5018 Venice Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15209 (412-523-5471)

-July: TBA…Greenburg Train Show, Monroeville Convention Center, if we get in (the schedule for this show has yet to announced) ? ????

Bill Patterson will host a date TBA for his meeting…Bill wants to have a pool party at his home, 246 Regency Place, Bethel Park, Pa. 15102 (412-833-2220)

-August: date TBA…Monongahela River, Rail & Transportation Museum, Brownsville, Pa. for the “Brownsville Days”

Club Family Picnic: date TBA…Frank and Jackie Magri or Donald and Debra Goodwin. Both have offered to host the picnic. Look for details in further minutes.

-September: Saturday 17th @ 1:00…Clark Kemmerer & Alice Angelo will host at 20 N. Joslyn drive, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15235 (412-795-05240)

-October: date TBA…Castle Shannon Fire Department train Show, 3600 Library Road, Castle Shannon ,Pa. 15234  [ may be a one or two day show]

-November: Greenburg Train Show, Monroeville convention center. If we get in????

Don Godwin would like to go to Brownsville for the back up in November, DTA

-December: Saturday 3rd. @ 6:00 Al Hartman is chairman of the Christmas Party. He needs volunteers to help with favors and set up. (724-869-3833)  “The Willows Motel & Inn” Rt. 68, Industry, Pa. 15052

Al is looking into the cost and availability of rooms for members who will need to stay overnight.
