ANNUAL PICNIC

What summer would be complete without a summer picnic or two (or 5 or 10 for that matter)?!  The PGRS 2009 annual picnic is bearing down on us like a fast freight bound for glory.  One of the original founding families of our club has established a fine country destination fit for just such an event.

The family of Mark Mamros has been hard at work readying all the details that will make this year's picnic one that you won't want to miss.  (I'm told they were trying to secure trackage rights for transporting members by train out to 'Mamros Grove', aka Caboose On The Mountain Getaway.  Alas, they had to settle for a single, authentic Pennsylvania N5C porthole caboose of 1941 vintage and a smaller short line bay window caboose on 66 feet of standard gauge rail).  Members will be free to explore these two units of Mark's along with a few others located nearby.  There is also a restored railway station minutes down the road along the old Wabash mainline (now the Wheeling & Lake Erie mainline) which happens to run under the Mamros' driveway through Craighead and Buxton tunnels.

Meadowcroft Village is within eyesight claiming the oldest site of human habitation in North America dating back some 16,000 years.  The mid-19th century is also re-created with visitors experiencing rural life 150 years ago as well as a 17th century Indian Village demonstrating how Eastern Woodland Indians lived some 400 years ago.

Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life is open on Sundays 1-5 PM
Adults $10, Seniors $9, Children 6-16 is $5  more info 724-587-3412

Mark will have some brochures available on this and some other attractions for those who may be interested and RV'ers are free to arrive the day before and camp on Caboose Mountain property.  Give Mark a call to get more details.

Mark's solar powered garden railroad should be interesting to see while you won't want to miss the special door prize that will be offered in conjunction with our 50/50 drawing.  (The prize is a natural fit for any garden railroad lover's garden)!

Pencil in your calendar (I'm sure you all have already) for Sunday, July 26 at 2:00 pm.  Come visit this 8 acre tract that is Caboose On The Mountain Getaway!  (See directions below)

The club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs.  Everyone else should follow this rotation for bringing food.  Use the first letter of your last name to determine which group you are in.

A thru F – salads, veggies and dip, or casseroles

G thru M – dessert items

N thru Z – appetizers or munchies
